“One of the greatest honours that can be bestowed upon a Halfling Militiaman is the privilege of carrying the town standard. Each settlement owns a standard, and is usually emblazoned with an image of their crest, or any other object that the town as a collective feels symbolises their town or village. Halflings are immensely proud and patriotic creatures, and any individual who is granted the honor of being a standard bearer will literally become a town hero, and will usually find himself being bought a lot more pints of ale in the various taverns than before by adoring townspeople and kindly barfolk. Sheamus “Pig Eye” Plebb is one of these standard bearers, earning his reputation, and his nickname, whilst defending a farmstead against a small band of Hobgoblin raiders, that somehow found their way through the Treacherous Mildaark forest that protects Hobbleshire from the outside world. After he and his band of fellow farm hands had beaten off the main attack, he was hit by a stray arrow shot by one the retreating Hobgoblins, taking out his eye, but not killing him. Hanging the barbed arrow above his fireplace, he has vowed to all who listen to him that he will avenge the taking of his eye, and he carries the Dryfield banner with pride and hope, hope that one day he will be able to settle the score with those who took from him.”
