As well as the Witch Doctors giving spiritual advice to the Bayourk tribe, it is common for there to be "Gran'mamas", venerable old Bayourk women who see to the sick, provide herbal remedies for ailments, and assist with childbirth and other complicated womanly endevours. They are wise and shrewd, their many years of experience open for all to hear, as long as they are willing to put up with the sometimes overbearing smell of herbs, roots, and various other "ingredients" stored within voluminous skirts,pockets and bags. It is also common for Gran'mamas to have a familliar, a gift from the spirits. This usually takes the form of a swamp critter - a bird, a lizard, a frog, or even a baby alligator. It is from her familiar that Big Mama 'Gator, one of the oldest and wisest of the Gran'mamas, takes her name, and her stubbornness, cantankerousness and frankness is known and sometimes feared throughout the Bayourk population.
